WASTE NOT - WANT NOT
Problem....My bread has gone stale!
Do not throw it out (this is something you will read a lot here). Here are some things you can do with it:
- Butter it, cut off the crusts, spread with marmite, cut each slice into 4 squares and toast in the oven at 180C for about 10 mins. Let cool and pack into school lunches. A bit of grated cheese ontop is nice too.
- Make a Bread Pudding
- Spread with garlic butter and roll up. Put into tinfoil and freeze for when you need it - you will soon accumulate a whole meal's worth.
- Cut into Xmas shapes, make a hole by piercing with a straw (this is where the string will go). Put into the oven on 100C till dry. Paint with Christmas colours. These make great tree decorations.
- Dry completely in the oven and whizz to make your own breadcrumbs.
Problem....I cooked too much rice!
If you can catch it while it is still warm then:
- Roll into golf ball sized balls, cover with clingfilm and refrigerate, these are lovely dipped in soy sauce with a japanese style meal.
- Rice freezes well, pack into bags or plastic containers for another day.
- Make a chicken and rice soup, both leftovers dealt with in one foul swoop.
Problem....Roast Veges left over!
- Use to make Frittata (Google has many recipes)
- Make Vege Soup (saute onion, whizz leftover veges to a pulp and add to the onion. Thin out as necessary with vege stock.
- Left over roast potatoes make great chips when fried up in a frying pan with some garlic.
